EVENTS:
Monthly retirees breakfast, December 10, 2009 at Piccadilly.
People that love to fish…. Last year the Firefighter’s fishing Tournament was
moved from Deland to Suwannee Florida. Last year’s tournament was held during an
unprecedented flood. Even with the flood we had a good turnout and we are
looking forward to the 2010 four day event, The Tournament will begin on Monday,
March 15 and will end on Friday, March 19, 2010. John Wood and Wiley Hart are
the co-chairpersons for the 2010 event. Registration fees will be $50.00; where
else could you enjoy food, fishing, and fellowship for four days at that price.
NEWS:
On November 16 the Firefighters Death benefit met at the Union hall to pass new
by-laws for the organization. Less than 30 people attended the meeting. This was
a meeting that more people should have been in attendance. One of our older
retirees that never participate in anything was there. Billy Freeman realized
the importance of this fund and attended.
We would like to thank Joe Smith, Nick Tison, John Long, John Peavy and Fred
Ferguson for the many hours of hard work to revise and improve the by-laws. The
effort put forth from these people will be realized for years to come. For the
next 4 months there will be an active recruitment for new members. There will be
an open enrollment period for all active duty personnel during January, February
and March.
Please read the enclosed letter from Local 122. At the November meeting
President Wyse stated that the union was headed for a “fight to the end”. If a
retiree wishing to donate to the Legal Reserve Fund please contact Local 122 at
396-2070.
REPORTS:
The Red Knights Sock Hop Fundraiser was held at Firefighter’s Hall on Saturday,
November 7, 2009. The word success is an understatement. A club of less than 35
members were able to work together and put on a first class show. The Moebius
Syndrome Foundation will be receiving a check in the amount of $5,000.
Congratulations to all those that worked so hard.
The Fire Department calendars at the credit union are out. Kelly Waters has done
an excellent job in the layout and production of this year’s calendars. They
have sure come along way from the old three colored ones.
At the November breakfast, District Chief Steve Gerbert’s wife Angela spoke to
the group concerning a “Living Legacy”. This is a business that she started
after realizing a need for advance planning at a time when decisions are hard to
make. For more information concerning this subject call 536-0645 or visit
ANGELA@ALIVINGLEGACY.NET.
If you happen to see the picture in the Times Union Business Section on Sunday,
November 22, 2009, you might have recognized one of our retiree’s. Sitting at
the bar in Dale’s Beer Bucket is Irving Pfister. Drinking his favorite beer
“Schlitz” that has to be specially ordered at this bar just for him. What a way
to enjoy your retirement. Go Irving!
