We hope that all members had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year will be
all that is hoped for.
MEMBER REPORT:
Wayne Bramlitt had gall bladder surgery and is home recovery well
Duke Denson is scheduled for kidney surgery in January.
“Fatz” Harden is home recovering after he had a pacemaker inserted in December.
Ed Harvey had his left foot removed due to mersa that he had been fighting with
for 2 ½ years. He is home doing well and was supposed to get a “new” foot for
Christmas.
Ron Learn’s wife is home recovering after foot surgery.
Davis Love was told that his cancer has spread but that they were going to do
some radical treatment over the next 2 months.
We ask that all our brothers and sisters be remembered in your prayers for a
speedy and peaceful recovery.
EVENTS:
The General City Employees Christmas Party was held of December 4, 2009. There
were four cash prizes awarded and three out of the four were retired
firefighters. Wiley Hart, Jimmy Jordan and Wayne Doolittle were the lucky
winners.
There will be a special two night union meeting on January 3 and 4, 2010 to
discuss and explain the dues increase for all active duty personnel. This
increase is to build a legal fund for the purpose of union activities to protect
the department and its members. This is mandatory for all active duty personnel.
There have been several retirees that have already donated to this cause. If you
wish to do so please contact the union office or be in attendance at this
special meeting.
The Redknights Motorcycle Club held its annual Christmas Party at the home of
Paul Lutzen and his girlfriend Melanie. The club reported that they sponsored a
family of four children from the Sisters at St. Vincent’s Hospital. The
elections of officers were recently held and the results are:
Linda Treadwell, President – Wayne Doolittle, Vice President – David Ash,
Secretary/Treasurer – Brian Doolittle, Webmaster/Historian – Warren Treadwell,
Sergeant –at-Arms – Harvey Royal, Road Captain – Paul Lutzen, Chaplain.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2010, 6:30 p.m. at Firefighter’s Hall will be the annual
meeting of the Jacksonville Firefighter’s Death Benefit. A dinner of BBQ
chicken, BBQ beans, coleslaw, pudding and tea will be served. Please confirm
your attendance by January 18, 2010 by calling John Peavy at 904-757-0188 or
Fred Ferguson at 904-783-9837. There will be a discussion concerning a proposed
by-laws-amendment change.
Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Camp Fake It (Jim White’s) in Ocala National
Forest a Fishing Tournament Luncheon will be held. Motel Chili and fried sweet
potatoes will be served at noon. The Co-Chairpersons’ for the 2010 Tournament
will be Wiley Hart and John Wood. If you have any questions about the tournament
please call the tournament Manager, Wayne Doolittle at 904-228-9795.
During the December Local 122 meeting, Bobby Dewitte presented a special award to Ron Learn (Rockin Ron) for all of his hard work during the tournament. The award was a special pair of matched chrome plated hammers made especially for little people. These hammers are “short handled” and are destined to be used frequently during the up-coming political races making signs at the union sign shop.
