Summertime in Florida is here. We hope everyone has plans for an eventful
summer, be safe and have fun.
MEMBER REPORT:
Fatz Harden is still maintaining at home and would really like to hear from you
guys.
Mickey Stoops is in therapy after his knee replacement. He goes from his condo
at Ormond Beach to his shack in the bogg near Georgetown.
Jim Wiley is in a nursing home in Sta. 10 territory. He retired from 10.
Cecil Davis is home taking care of his wife after surgery.
EVENTS:
Due to a lack of participation there will no longer be donuts and coffee at the
museum on payday Friday. This was FREE coffee, try to get that at your local
diner or coffee shop.
Monthly breakfast on Thursday, May 13, 2010. The bigger the crowd the more money
Ronnie has to give away. During the May breakfast you will have an opportunity
to purchase a ticket for a giveaway. There will be a reproduction antique fire
helmet designed by a retired firefighter in Broward County. This helmet was
designed in honor of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The tickets for this helmet will
be a different color (separate) from normal red tickets, but will be the same
price: $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
On Monday, May 10, 2010 there will be a one day fishing event held in Deland,
Florida.
Manager John Wood has organized this event for the purpose of reviewing this
year’s tournament and plan for next years event. If you want to fish you can put
your boat in the water at SR44 and the St. John’s River. Lunch will be at Shady
Oaks on the river at noon.
There was a special ceremony on Thursday, April 29, at Fire Station 27, 6241 Ft.
Caroline Rd. at 11:30am. During this ceremony Wayne Doolittle, President of the
Arlington Volunteer Fire Department turned the keys to the station over to the
Honorable John Peyton, Chief Randy White and Chief Larry Peterson, Chief of
Services. Following this ceremony lunch will be catered by the Tree Steakhouse.
There will be a motorcycle ride on Saturday, June 5 for the purpose of raising
money for the Hagen Scholarship. This fund was created in the name of the son of
Lt. Joe Hagan after his accidental death in 2008. The fund is for young men that
want to be firefighters and do not have the funds to do so. Staging will be in
the K-Mart parking lot in Palatka on SR 19. Beef O’Grady’s will be open early to
serve breakfast. Cost is $25 for rider and $5.00 for passengers’ Kickstands go
up at 11:30.
The Red Knights are planning at trip in the first week of October to Emmetsburg,
Maryland for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Linda Treadwell,
President is inviting anyone that would like to join in this ride contact Linda
at 630-0618 or 210-6799. Our fallen brother Neal Tarkington’s name will be
installed on the wall of honor this year. Details are being worked on now
because accommodations are fast becoming limited. This is an event that attended
by thousands of people each year.
SPECIAL REPORTS:
On Sunday, April 11, the American Legion Post 137 hosted its annual fire and
police appreciation dinner. The Red Knights Chapter 7 rode to this event and
there were several retired firefighters in attendance. Mrs. Vera Stephens has
been hosting this event for a number of years and makes all in attendance feel
special and appreciated.
The “Men from Ten” luncheon was held on April 7, 2010.

event seems to grown bigger every year and a good time was had by all. Enclosed

The 5th Annual Firefighters Widow’s Luncheon was held on April 7.
PICTURES The theme of this year’s luncheon was “My Hero Wore a Fire Helmet”.
Linda Treadwell commissioned a
coin in honor of this event. Each widow was presented a coin in a velvet box, on
the last page of this newsletter is a picture of the special coin. In attendance
this year was 33 widows. These ladies have a good time, enjoy the fellowship and
renew old friendships. Ronnie Learn was the master of ceremonies and he did his
usual excellent job.
